Happy New Year! Here are a
few ideas with links to crafts and recipes you can create with your children
this January!
1/1 New Years Day is a time of happiness shared with
friends & family remembering the past while hoping for good things in the
future. Not all countries celebrate the New Year on January 1st. The
Chinese, Egyptian, Jewish, Roman and Mohammedan years all have different start
dates.

day to share random facts? It’s National Trivia Day! Which Ocean is off the California
Coast? The Pacific Ocean! Use this day to share tidbits of information to share
with your family and friends!

around for centuries. Today is National Whipped Cream Day, you can find whipped cream in a
variety of flavors! It dates back to the mid-1500’s!
1/8 The idea
behind Joy Germ Day is to spread happiness! Feelings are
contagious, the more you smile or show happiness the easier it is to share joy!
The people around you feel it and spread it! These germs are good to catch!
1/13 In
honor of R. Stanton Avery, National Sticker Day takes place on January 13th.
Initially created as price stickers in 1935, stickers have come a long way! Did
you have a sticker collection as a child? I fondly remember visiting the Lisa
Frank Store at my local mall as a child and buying stickers for my collection!
1/18 A.A.
Milne created the Winnie the Pooh stories after his son Christopher
Robin’s teddy bear! The rest of his stuffed animals became the basis of many of
the other characters Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo! On Winnie the Pooh
Day, why not bring in your favorite character!!
1/20 Civil
Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to achieving
equality for all Americans regardless of color. We honor him and his legacy on
the 3rd Monday in January, named Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
1/23 Celebrated
since the 1970’s, eating pie on National Pie Day is a great way to start or end your
day. Generally filled with a sweet filling you can make a savory pie! Perhaps a
savory pie for dinner and a sweet for dessert?
